On August 13, 1814, Percy Shelley writes one of the most insensitive letters in the annals of romantic literature. Shelley is travelling through France with Mary, who is not yet seventeen, and he writes to his abandoned and pregnant wife Harriet to join him. He writes with the most narcissistic self regard possible, totally insensitive to Harriet.
