In 1927, this 10 year-old, Mildred Unger, danced the Charleston on the wing of this airplane while it was flying 2,000 feet in the air! No matter how many times I see this clip, it freaks me out. Whose idea was this? And what kind of adults would allow this child to put her life in such peril?! It’s utter madness. It’s true, the 1920s were all about excess, and full of an abandoned recklessness and fervour after World War I decimated “the old ways”. I can imagine what it would have been like to live in such a crazed time of change. But seriously – this is insane.
