Video: Mary Wollstonecraft (Godwin)’s Grave In London

Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin’s grave at Old St. Pancras Church in Camden, London.

In June of 1814, Percy Shelley and Mary Godwin (before she became a Shelley) would meet here, at her mother’s gravestone, early in their courtship (while he was still married to Harriet). Spending time here, often chaperoned by Mary’s step-sister Claire Clairmont, Mary and Percy would read, talk, and, according to legend, they also first consummated their relationship on top of this grave.
